Garth is an experienced patent attorney in the biotechnology and pharmaceuticals fields. He has assisted a number of New Zealand and Australian based research organisations, start-ups and biotechnology companies in securing and enforcing intellectual property rights fundamental to commercialisation activity. Garth practices across all aspects of intellectual property management, including strategy and portfolio management advice, as well as in the provision of patent validity and infringement opinions as part of investment due diligence.

Garth’s specialises in intellectual property capture and enforceability with respect to nucleic acid and protein based diagnostics, vaccine technologies, medical devices particularly configured for drug release, as well as small molecule and protein based therapeutics.

Garth has a PhD in biochemistry/biophysics from the Australian National University and during his professional career has held private-practice and in-house roles between Australia and New Zealand. Garth was previously the in-house Intellectual Property Manager at Otago Innovation Limited where he managed the intellectual assets and intellectual property rights originating from University of Otago.
